NZeTA — apply online
An NZeTA is a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority — an official authorization for short visits such as tourism or transit, linked to your passport. It is not a visitor visa.
Who needs NZeTA?
- Travellers from an eligible country, visiting for a short stay — typically tourism, business or transit.
- Tourism (exploring, sightseeing, cultural experiences)
- Visiting friends and family
- Attending short-term study programs (up to 3 months)
- Attending events or business meetings (without paid work)
What you'll need
- Good Character — No criminal convictions or deportations.
- Good Health — No serious contagious diseases.
- Sufficient Funds — Evidence of sufficient funds to cover the stay.
- Return/Onward Ticket — Proof of a return flight or onward travel ticket.
- Payment — Payment for the NZeTA fee and the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL).
- Valid Passport — A scan of a passport valid for at least three or six months, depending on the issuing country, with two blank pages for official use.
- Photograph — A digital photo of your face that meets the government's requirements — portrait orientation, evenly lit, in color, plain light-colored background, showing your natural expression clearly.
- Proof of Onward Travel — Evidence of a return or onward travel ticket.
- Proof of Sufficient Funds — Bank statements, credit card statements, or travelers' cheques showing a minimum of NZD $1,000 per month or NZD $400 if accommodation is prepaid.
How to apply
Check you're eligible
Confirm your passport meets the validity rules and that your trip is for a purpose this authorisation covers; the covered purposes are listed on this page. Always confirm the details with the issuing authority.
Complete the guided form
Answer plain-language questions and upload the documents we ask for. We pre-check every field as you go.
We review and submit
Automated checks and our team verify everything for accuracy, then submit to the relevant authority on your behalf.
Receive your NZeTA
We email you as soon as the authority issues its decision, and your NZeTA is stored in your account. An approved NZeTA is permission to travel — entry is still decided at the border.

Small, avoidable mistakes are a common cause of NZeTA refusals. These are the ones we check for before your application is submitted.

- A blurry, cropped or glare-covered passport photo page
- Names or dates that don't exactly match your passport
- Leaving the application until the last day before travel
